Explore the Llandaf - Blackweir Bridge

Location: Cardiff, Wales

This is a straightforward 6.7km out-and-back along a section of the Taff Trail in Cardiff. The route is entirely paved and, with zero metres of total ascent, it is completely flat. This makes it a very predictable course, good for a tempo session or for pushing the pace without having to think about footing or gradient. Road shoes are the only thing you’ll need; the surface is smooth tarmac throughout.

From the starting point near Llandaff, you head south on the shared-use path which runs parallel to the River Taff. The route is contained entirely within parkland, so you are away from road traffic for the whole run. The path is generally wide, but it is heavily used by cyclists and walkers, so you'll need to be aware of other people. The turnaround marker is Blackweir Bridge, where you simply turn and head back the way you came.

The return leg is an identical profile back to the start. The lack of hills means you can maintain an even effort on the way back, even on tired legs. Because the path is hard-surfaced and drains well, it's a reliable choice for wet weather running when nearby fields or trails would be waterlogged. Expect it to be busiest on evenings and weekends, as it’s a popular route for many local runners.
