Frequently asked questions
Managing your connections
Skamper can connect to Strava and Garmin Connect to automatically import your runs and match them to routes in our database.
What we access
- Strava: Your activity history (runs only). We do not access private activities unless you explicitly allow this during connection.
- Garmin Connect: Your activity history (runs only). We request the minimum permissions needed to read completed activities.
Why we access it
We use this data to match your uploaded runs to verified Skamper routes, calculate your TAG grade, and display your results in your profile and on leaderboards.
Connect and disconnect
Go to Settings → Connections in Skamper to link or unlink your Strava or Garmin account. Disconnecting stops future imports immediately.
Revoke access externally
You can also revoke Skamper's access directly from the service side:
Getting started
- Find a route — Browse or search for a route near you. Filter by distance, terrain or location.
- Download the GPX — Save the file to your phone or watch so you can follow the route on the ground.
- Run it — Head out and enjoy the route. Record your run on your watch or phone as normal.
- Upload your result — Connect Strava or Garmin to auto-import, or upload a GPX/TCX file manually.
- Receive your TAG grade — Skamper matches your run to the route and calculates your Terrain Adjusted Grade.
Troubleshooting
My run isn't appearing
If you connected Strava or Garmin, new activities usually appear within a few minutes. If a run is missing, try refreshing the connection in Settings → Connections, or upload the file manually.
TAG was not calculated
TAG requires a successful route match. Make sure your GPS track covers the full route and starts at the official start point. Partial or off-route runs may not match.
GPX download isn't working
Check your browser is not blocking downloads. On mobile, ensure you have granted storage permission. The file is small (usually under 50 KB) so it should download quickly.
Strava or Garmin not syncing
First check that the connection is still active in Settings → Connections. If it shows as connected but nothing imports, try disconnecting and reconnecting. Note that historical activities are not imported retroactively — only new runs from the moment of connection.
