Explore the Murrayfield, Leith, Portobello, Holyrood Loop
Location: Murrayfield, Scotland
This substantial loop offers a tour of Edinburgh, covering just over 26 km on entirely paved surfaces. The circuit is gently undulating, with around 140m of climbing spread throughout, making for a consistent run across the city.
Much of the route follows the coastline, particularly along the promenade in Portobello, which fronts a wide sandy beach. Further along, the path runs close to the water in Leith, before turning inland. A notable section of the loop uses the Innocent Railway, a former railway line now converted to a path, providing a traffic-free stretch.
The route takes in various urban areas, offering a continuous journey through the city's different neighbourhoods. It's a good option for a long, steady run on firm ground.
