Explore the The King's Forest Tracks
Location: West Stow, England
This 10.6km clockwise loop follows the main tracks through The King’s Forest. The route is entirely off-road on wide, established paths, so it's straightforward to navigate. Trail shoes are the standard choice, especially after rain, but the firm, sandy base means you could manage in road shoes during a dry spell. It’s a good course for a steady tempo effort or a long run where you want a consistent rhythm without interruptions from traffic or road crossings.
With only 44 metres of total ascent, the run is effectively flat. You’ll find a few long, gentle gradients that break things up, but there are no climbs that will force you to change pace. The footing is uniform and non-technical throughout. This isn't a single-track trail run with roots and rocks; it's more like a cross-country course on predictable ground, which lets you focus on your running rather than your feet.
The entire circuit stays within the forest, alternating between sections of dense pine and more open clearings. The tree cover provides good shelter from sun or wind, and the clearings are where you are most likely to see any of the resident deer. You can begin this loop from any car park that gives access to the main forest tracks, making it easy to get started.
