Explore the Bath Skyline parkrun course
Location: Bath, England
This 5k loop runs entirely on off-road surfaces, combining woodland paths with open fields. It is a proper cross-country style course, so you can expect variable footing. If you're looking for a consistent, paved 5k for a tempo run or a personal best attempt, this isn't the one. Think of it more as a good weekly test on natural ground, or a session where you need to stay switched on to the surface under your feet.
With only 14 metres of total ascent, the route is effectively flat. You will encounter a few gentle rises and falls, particularly as you move between sections, but there is no significant climbing to tax your legs. The main factor here is the ground itself, which is often uneven and becomes very muddy after wet weather. Trail shoes are the correct choice for most of the year; road shoes will struggle to find grip, especially in the woodland parts.
The route is a straightforward single loop, alternating between the tree cover of the woods and exposed, grassy areas. These open sections are where you’ll find the views over the city and countryside implied by the 'Skyline' name. It’s a solid off-road run that doesn't demand technical skill, offering a reliable circuit for cross-country style training.
