Wembury Beach - Crownhill Bay

This is a 9.1 km out-and-back route that follows the South West Coast Path from Wembury Beach to Crownhill Bay. The surface is almost entirely unpaved trail, sticking to the clifftop for its duration. While much of the path is firm and well-maintained, there are uneven sections and it can get slippery after prolonged wet weather. A road-to-trail shoe is a reliable choice, though you could manage in standard road shoes during a dry spell if you watch your footing.

With only 41 metres of total ascent, the course is effectively flat. You will feel this as a series of gentle, rolling undulations rather than any noticeable climbs, making it well-suited for a steady, consistent effort. As an out-and-back, the profile is symmetrical and simple to pace; you just turn around at the bay and follow the exact same path back to the start. The trail is well-defined and easy to follow throughout.

Your run keeps the sea in constant view. The path runs along the shoreline, passing a few small sandy coves and the base of some low, rugged cliffs. This is a popular section of the national trail for walkers, so expect to share the space, particularly on a summer weekend. The open nature of the path means you have clear sight lines, making it easy to see people ahead and pass without breaking your stride.
