Around Wembury

This is a loop of two distinct halves: a technical section of the South West Coast Path and a series of inland field crossings. At just over 6km, it’s a compact trail run that gives you a lot of variety over a short distance. You can join the route at any point, making it easy to start from Wembury village or a car park closer to the coast.

With only 10% paved surface, this is one for trail shoes. You’ll be on dirt tracks, open grassy fields and the uneven ground of the coastal path. After wet weather, expect the fields and some path sections to be muddy and slippery, so good grip is important. The 123m of total ascent is delivered in rolling, punchy climbs rather than one big effort, as the route drops down and then rises back up to the clifftops.

One part of the run is on the exposed clifftop path where you need to watch your footing, especially on the narrow or uneven ground. The other part takes you inland on more sheltered footpaths. The constant change in terrain and gradient means your pace will vary, making it a good run to do by effort rather than watching the clock. It’s a solid example of a South Devon coastal circuit.
