Anytime Race 3: Scout Scar

This 9.2km route near Kendal offers a challenging and rewarding run with beautiful views. Starting close to the Church of Saint John in Helsington, you'll tackle a steady ascent onto Helsington Barrows, enjoying firm paths and open, exposed sections that provide excellent conditioning. The course then takes you on another sustained climb up to the iconic Mushroom Shelter on Scout Scar, where the landscape opens up to limestone and short grass.

Ideal for those looking to build their hill fitness or wanting to experience some of Cumbria's stunning natural scenery, this route features a significant 164m of ascent. It's largely paved, offering a consistent surface suitable for a solid training session or a scenic exploration run. The descent along the scar provides welcome relief as you head towards the finish, just shy of Brigsteer Road.
