Explore the Middleton Cheney - Chacombe Loops
Location: Middleton Cheney, England
This 6km loop is roughly 85% off-road on unpaved trail and field paths. Trail shoes are the correct choice here; the mix of grassy tracks and uneven ground will be slippery in the wet and difficult for road shoes at any time. The course serves as a solid cross-country training run, with the 81m of total ascent coming in one noticeable climb. You can start this loop anywhere along its length.
The route follows a section of the Jurassic Way out of Middleton Cheney, descending on trail towards Chacombe. At the furthest point, the course peels off into a smaller loop that contains the main climb. It’s a sustained effort rather than a sharp shock, taking you back up to the higher ground. From this part of the run you get clear views over the local fields before the path levels out again.
Once you’ve completed the Chacombe section, you rejoin the outward path along the Jurassic Way to make your way back. Because the route is mostly across open fields, you're exposed to the weather, which is worth considering on a windy or wet day. The surface is mostly firm underfoot in dry conditions, but it’s the rolling nature of the terrain that defines the run.
