Explore the Lackford Lakes

Location: Lackford, England

This is a completely flat, sub-6K route contained within the Lackford Lakes Nature Reserve. The shape is a simple lollipop: you run out along an approach path, complete a distinct loop around the western lake, and then return to the start the same way you came. The surface is almost entirely unpaved, mostly a mix of compacted gravel tracks and softer grass paths that run between the trees and along the water.

With zero recorded ascent, this is a good option for an uninterrupted tempo effort or just an easy spin of the legs. Road shoes will be fine for most of the year, but you might want something with more grip if it’s been wet, as the grassy parts can get soft and slick in the winter months. The paths are popular with other visitors, so expect to navigate around walkers, particularly near the bird hides that are dotted along the lakeside.

Navigation is straightforward. Follow the main track out to the lake, complete one circuit, and then retrace your steps back to the car park. The route keeps you close to the water for the main loop section, with clear views across it. It’s a contained run without any road crossings or complex junctions, making it a simple circuit where you can focus on your pace or the immediate environment of the reserve.
