Explore the North Reddish 5
Location: Manchester, England
This is a 5.0 km out-and-back using a section of the Fallowfield Loop starting near North Reddish. The route is entirely paved and, with only 10 metres of total ascent, it's effectively flat. This makes it a good choice for a tempo effort or any session where you want to lock into a consistent pace without interruptions from hills or traffic. Your standard road shoes will be fine here in all conditions as the surface is predictable underfoot.
You'll follow the wide, multi-use path for 2.5 km before turning around and retracing your steps to the start. As a former railway line, the route is completely segregated from road traffic, but it is popular with cyclists and walkers, so you'll be sharing the space. Navigation is as simple as it gets: just stay on the main path. The linear nature of the run means you can easily shorten or extend the distance if you need to.
The Fallowfield Loop provides a green corridor through the surrounding urban area. Expect to run between trees and old railway embankments, with the backs of houses and some light industrial buildings visible along the way. This isn't a run for specific landmarks, but rather a functional and reliable option for getting in a straightforward training block. The lack of road crossings lets you focus entirely on your running.
