Location: Scottish Borders, Scotland

This 5.1 km loop creates a circuit between Walkerburn and Innerleithen, running on paved surfaces on both sides of the River Tweed. It’s a completely flat run, with only 22 metres of climb spread across the entire distance, making it ideal for a tempo session or just maintaining a consistent pace. Standard road shoes are all you will need; the surface is predictable year-round.

As a loop, you can join at any point in either town and run it in either direction. Taking it clockwise, one half of the circuit follows a quiet lane, set slightly back from the river. For the return leg, you will be on a dedicated tarmac path that runs right alongside the water's edge, offering a different feel. The footing is clean and without technical challenges.

The route’s main feature is its continuous proximity to the River Tweed. You will also get open views across the valley to the surrounding hills that frame the area. Because it connects the two towns with a straightforward, traffic-free path, it functions well as a reliable training loop when you need to get a few kilometres done without any navigational fuss.
