Explore the Hebden Grassington Loop
Location: Hebden, England
This is a 6.9km loop linking the villages of Hebden and Grassington. Around 70% of the route is unpaved, taking you off-road onto proper footpaths. The surface varies between established trail and grassy sections, so trail shoes are the best choice, particularly if there’s been any rain. As it’s a straightforward loop, you can start from either village, though most tend to run it clockwise when starting from Hebden.
The 83 metres of total ascent are spread throughout the run, giving it a gently rolling character. You won’t face any steep, prolonged hills, just a series of gradual inclines and declines that keep the legs working. You’ll be on two named paths for much of the way. The section on The Dales Way is a well-defined and frequently used trail. In contrast, the part along Lady Anne's Way is generally quieter, with more rugged and uneven ground underfoot.
You’ll run mainly through open fields, with long sightlines across the surrounding dales. The route changes from harder packed trail to softer, grassy footing as you switch between the different ways. This mix of terrain makes it a solid option for an accessible off-road run that gives a sense of the local landscape without being overly demanding. The paths are generally clear, but the less-trodden sections on Lady Anne’s Way require more attention to your footing.
