Explore the Cearketton hill
Location: Lothianburn, Midlothian
This challenging 20 km loop through the Pentland Hills packs in over 1000 metres of climbing, with ascents and descents spread evenly throughout the circuit. The ground is almost entirely off-road, taking in a mix of open moorland and hill trails.
The route begins with a sustained climb up to Caerketton Hill, before dropping into the valley and following the Pentland Way Alternative path. Further on, the trail crosses Den's Cleugh, a narrow valley, before another significant climb towards Capelaw Hill and Turnhouse Hill.
The final section of the loop descends back towards Lothianburn, offering a demanding but rewarding run across varied hill terrain.
