Explore the Trehan 8
Location: Saltash, England
This is an 8km figure-of-eight road loop on the lanes around Saltash. The entire route is paved, so standard road shoes are all you need. The main thing to be aware of is the nature of the roads; these are narrow Cornish lanes, often enclosed by high hedgerows. This significantly restricts visibility for both you and any drivers, so you need to stay alert for traffic throughout. It's a run that requires constant awareness of your surroundings.
The first loop starts out flat as it takes you into Forder and passes under the viaduct. Soon after, the main effort of the run begins with a sustained climb up towards Trehan. This section accounts for most of the route's 114 metres of total ascent. It is a steady grind rather than a punishingly steep hill, so you can settle into a rhythm for it.
Once at the top, the second loop is more undulating. You will follow Voss Road towards Broadmoor on rolling terrain before getting some recovery on the long, gradual descent down Longlands Lane. This second half lets you get your legs turning over faster as you return to the start. The consistent surface and rolling profile make it a solid local option for building road-running strength.
