Explore the Lochleaze - Stapleton

Location: Bristol, England

This is an almost 8km loop primarily on paved surfaces around the Bristol suburbs of Lockleaze and Stapleton. Being 90% tarmac and pavement, it’s a straightforward road run where your normal road shoes will be entirely suitable. It’s a true circuit, so you can join it at whatever point is most convenient for you, making it a useful training route if you’re local.

The 70m of total ascent is distributed evenly enough that the route feels gently rolling rather than properly hilly. You won’t face any single, difficult climb; the inclines are gradual and shouldn't force you to break your rhythm. This profile works well for a steady run or a tempo effort where you want predictable footing and no major interruptions from the terrain itself.

Your run will be split between two distinct environments. Much of the loop is on pavements through residential streets, with the usual road crossings to be aware of. The character of the run changes when it follows a path through parkland alongside the River Frome. This section offers a short break from the built-up areas before the route turns back through Stapleton to complete the loop. It’s a reliable circuit for a mid-week run.
