Location: Bury, England

This 2.3 km loop takes you on an anticlockwise circuit of the reservoirs at Elton Vale. As a simple, self-contained loop, you can begin your run from any point along the path. The surface is mixed, combining sections of well-trodden dirt trail and grass with some short paved connections. It’s a straightforward route, known and used by local runners for regular training.

The course is effectively flat. With only 14 metres of total ascent, you’ll barely register the climb, which feels more like a slight undulation in the ground than a hill. The footing is mostly good underfoot, but the grassy and unpaved sections mean it quickly turns muddy after wet weather. For year-round running, trail shoes are the better choice, though road shoes will be fine during a long dry spell.

Navigation is minimal; you just follow the obvious path around the water. The route’s short, consistent length makes it a practical option for anyone looking to run multiple laps or do interval training on a predictable circuit. It’s a functional, open-feeling run that does its job as a convenient place for a quick session away from traffic.
