Location: Isle of Man

This 13.4 km loop packs in 471 metres of climbing, with the first and steepest ascent beginning straight from the Colden car park. It’s a demanding, anticlockwise circuit on entirely off-road surfaces, so trail shoes are non-negotiable. The ground is a mix of rugged paths and grassy moorland, which can become boggy and slippery in wet conditions, particularly on the climbs. You're committed to the full loop once you start, as there are no easy cut-throughs back to the start point.

The route establishes its character immediately with the sharp pull up Colden itself. The footing here is uneven and requires concentration. Once at the top, the course continues across to Lhargee Ruy and Sileau Ruy. The terrain here transitions to more open, grassy trails between the summits, though you’ll still need to watch for intermittent rocky patches. After this middle section, the route directs you towards the final major effort: the climb up Greeba Mountain.

The descent from Greeba is not a simple cruise back to the finish. It combines stretches of open moorland with narrow, technical singletrack paths that demand careful foot placement, especially when your legs are tired. This final section requires focus all the way back to the car park. It's a run for testing your climbing legs and your handling of varied off-road terrain, rather than for chasing a particular pace.
