Experience the diverse landscape of North Lanarkshire on this adventurous 10.9km loop around Cumbernauld. While the distance nudges just past a traditional 10k, the route remains accessible for most thanks to its 100% paved terrain on multi-use paths and road links. Despite the "hilly" rating, the gentle 58m of total ascent means runners can maintain a steady rhythm without facing punishing climbs. You’ll navigate a seamless blend of urban footpaths and green corridors, making it a fantastic choice for those looking to clock a longer weekend effort on a dependable, all-weather surface.
Cumbernauld is a town famously built for the future, and its unique design is a runner's dream—featuring an extensive network of segregated footbridges and underpasses that let you cruise through the heart of the town without the constant stop-start of traffic. As you head around the loop, you’re running through a town that won the "Beautiful Scotland" award multiple times; the path network is surprisingly lush, weaving through community woodlands and past the modernist architecture that defines this Scottish New Town. Local runners often appreciate how these "red roads" connect the various villages, offering a sense of exploration right on the doorstep of the Central Belt.
