This flat, out-and-back 5km route along the Sheffield Canal provides an ideal escape from the urban hustle of the city centre. Starting at the historic Victoria Quays, runners can enjoy a perfectly paved surface that is entirely free of hills, making it a prime choice for an easy recovery run or a focused speed session. The path leads you toward the impressive Worksop Road Viaduct, offering a straightforward, traffic-free corridor where the only rhythm you need to worry about is your own pace reflected in the calm waters of the Tinsley Canal.
Once the industrial lifeblood of Sheffield, this waterway served as a vital link for transporting coal and steel during the peak of the Industrial Revolution. Today, the Sheffield & Tinsley Canal has been transformed into a peaceful green lung for the city, lined with vibrant street art and heritage architecture. As you run past the colorful narrowboats moored at the quayside, you are retracing a path that has been in use since 1819, and the modern redevelopment of Victoria Quays now offers plenty of spots for a post-run coffee in one of the restored railway arches.
