The Cochno Hill Loop offers runners a refreshing escape into the Kilpatrick Hills, striking a perfect balance between accessible pavement and rugged Scottish hillside. Starting from Faifley, this clockwise circuit spans 7.8km and packs a punch with 224m of elevation gain, making it an excellent choice for those looking to build hill strength without committing to a full mountain day. You’ll experience a steady climb as you head up Cochno Hill, where the panoramic views across the Clyde Valley and towards the peaks of Loch Lomond and Perthshire provide plenty of motivation for the ascent. The descent brings you back through a mix of terrain, offering a fast finish for those with the legs for it.
Situated on the northern edge of Faifley, this area is steeped in both industrial and prehistoric history. While the route itself is a haven for modern trail runners and hill walkers, the landscape is famous for the nearby Cochno Stone, one of the UK's most significant examples of Bronze Age cup and ring markings. As you traverse the slopes of Cochno Hill, you are running over ground that has been used for millennia, transitioning from the edge of Clydebank's urban sprawl into the wilder, heathery moorland that defines the gateway to the Scottish Highlands. It's a "hidden gem" for locals who want a quick wilderness fix just a stone's throw from Glasgow.
