This 5.0km loop offers a quintessential Scottish seaside running experience, blending the rugged charm of the Berwickshire coast with the manicured greens of the Eyemouth Golf Course. Starting from Harbour Road, you’ll tackle a mix of paved surfaces and well-trodden coastal paths. While the total ascent of 33m sounds modest, the "hilly" nature of the terrain provides some short, sharp undulations that will keep your heart rate up and your legs engaged. Expect refreshing North Sea breezes and panoramic views as you navigate the cliffside trails, making it a perfect route for those looking to swap city pavement for some invigorating salt air.
Runners will pass through the historic Gunsgreen area, once a notorious hub for 18th-century smuggling operations. The imposing Gunsgreen House, which overlooks the harbor, was built with hidden "tea chutes" and secret crawl spaces designed by John Adam for merchant John Nisbet. As you loop around the headland, you are following paths once used by lookout guards and local fishermen. Today, the area is much more tranquil, serving as a gateway to the Berwickshire Marine Reserve where, if you time your run for a calm day, you might even spot seals bobbing in the harbor or the distant outlines of the Farne Islands.
