Route Overview & Local Insights

Experience the heart of Perthshire on this 7.5km scenic circuit that perfectly blends riverside tranquility with a challenging forest ascent. Starting at the historic Kenmore Bridge, you'll begin with a flat, fast pace along the banks of the River Tay before the terrain shifts. The route transitions into a demanding climb through dense woodland, gaining over 200m in elevation. The highlight is the out-and-back spur to the Black Rock Viewpoint, where your efforts are rewarded with sweeping panoramas of Loch Tay and the surrounding Munros. With 5km of paved surfaces and a hiller profile, it's an ideal session for runners looking to build strength without leaving solid footing behind.

Kenmore is a village steeped in Highland history, sitting at the mouth of Scotland's longest river. As you run, you are passing through lands once dominated by the Breadalbane family, whose influence is still visible in the architecture of the Taymouth Castle estate nearby. This area has long been a gateway for travelers and clan members alike; the Black Rock viewpoint rests on the slopes of Drummond Hill, home to the first managed forest in Scotland, planted by the 2nd Earl of Breadalbane in the 17th century. Running here connects you to centuries of Scottish heritage, from the ancient Crannogs on the water to the Victorian explorers who frequented these very hills.
