Experience the serene beauty of Perthshire on this 8.4km circuit through the heart of Dunkeld. This "hilly" but manageable route offers a mix of terrain, with roughly 35% being paved, making it a fantastic choice for runners looking for a blend of firm trail and road. Starting from the historic Stanley Hill, you’ll join the Fiddler's Path, a scenic trail that hugs the banks of the mighty River Tay. The highlight for many runners is the crossing at the Jubilee Bridge, which provides a perfect vantage point to appreciate the river's flow before looping back through lush woodland on the opposite bank. With only 47m of total ascent, it’s a relatively fast course that rewards your efforts with constant views of one of Scotland’s most iconic waterways.
Dunkeld is a village steeped in Highland history, often referred to as the "Gateway to the Highlands." Running along these banks, you are following in the footsteps of centuries of travelers; the area was once the ecclesiastical capital of Scotland. The Fiddler's Path itself is named in honor of Niel Gow, the legendary 18th-century Scottish fiddler who lived nearby and allegedly composed many of his famous tunes under the "Oak Tree" along this very riverbank. After your run, the local insight is to head toward the cathedral ruins or grab a post-run coffee at one of the independent bakeries in the village square—a favorite ritual for the local Harriers and trail running community.
