Starting from Market Street in the heart of Aberfeldy, this 6.9km loop offers an invigorating blend of tarmac and rugged hill trails. With an ascent of 221m, runners should prepare for a steady climb as the route leaves the banks of the River Tay and heads toward the slopes of Glassie. The terrain is a mix of paved sections and natural paths, making it a perfect moderate-intensity run for those looking to elevate their heart rate while enjoying sweeping views of the Tay Valley. The loop around Boltachan Burn provides a refreshing soundtrack of running water as you navigate the undulating "Hilly 4" rated landscape, eventually descending back toward the town center.
Aberfeldy is steeped in Highland history and is perhaps most famous as the gateway to the mountains in Perthshire. As you cross the historic Wade’s Bridge—built in 1733 to help link the Highlands—you are running in the footsteps of General Wade’s soldiers. The area served as inspiration for Robert Burns, Scotland’s national bard, who wrote "The Birks o' Aberfeldy" just a stone’s throw from this route. The surrounding woods of Weem are home to the legendary St. David’s Well and ancient rock faces, providing a dramatic backdrop that has drawn hikers and runners to this corner of the Strathtay for centuries.
