This 7.8km loop offers a refreshing exploration of the Moray coast, blending smooth pavement with the rugged charm of Scotland’s seaside trails. Starting in the heart of Buckie, the route is largely flat with a negligible 34m ascent, making it an ideal choice for runners looking to maintain a steady tempo or enjoy a relaxed recovery run. You’ll navigate through the town before heading west past Merson Park and the verdant fairways of Buckpool Golf Club toward Portgordon. The return leg is the highlight, as you join the Moray Coast Trail to run alongside the Firth, where the North Sea breeze and coastal views provide a stunning backdrop for your final kilometers.
Buckie serves as a historic hub for the Scottish fishing industry, and its heritage is palpable as you pass through the bustling Main Street and traditional harbor areas. As you reach Portgordon, keep a keen eye on the shoreline; the area is famous among locals for its seal colony, often found sunning themselves on the rocks near the village. Running this circuit in an anti-clockwise direction allows you to transition from the structured architecture of the town into the wilder, natural beauty of the coastline, offering a true taste of life on the edge of the Speyside region.
