Experience the rugged charm of the Moray Firth on this refreshing 8.8km loop that perfectly balances coastal scenery with manicured greens. Starting from the historic harbour, you'll tackle a predominantly flat course with a mere 11m of ascent, making it an ideal choice for a tempo session or a relaxed recovery run. The terrain is a satisfying mix of roughly 50% paved surfaces and natural coastal paths, taking you directly alongside the golden sands of Nairn Beach before looping around the prestigious Nairn Golf Club. Runners can enjoy wide-open skies and salt-heavy air, with the firm trails around the links offering a springy, traditional Scottish running experience.
Nairn is often referred to as the "Brighton of the North" due to its remarkably dry and sunny microclimate, which provides some of the best running conditions in Scotland. This route skirts the edge of the historic golf course, which has hosted the Walker Cup and is world-renowned for its coastal views. As you run back toward Harbour Street, look out across the water; the Moray Firth is famous for its resident pod of bottlenose dolphins, and sightings are common from the shoreline. After finishing your 8.8km loop, the local tradition is to refuel at one of the seaside kiosks or pubs where the maritime heritage of this former fishing town is still very much alive.
