This 8.4km out-and-back route offers a quintessential Highland running experience, taking you from the welcoming Strathy Inn directly to the dramatic cliffs of Strathy Point. While the route is 100% paved, don't let the smooth surface fool you; the rolling terrain provides a steady challenge that keeps your heart rate elevated. As you head north, you’ll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the North Atlantic, with the striking white lighthouse acting as your turnaround point. The exposure to the elements here is half the fun, so prepare for refreshing sea breezes and the distinct possibility of spotting whales or dolphins breaking the surface off the coast.
Strathy Point is steeped in both maritime history and natural significance; the lighthouse itself was the first in Scotland to be built specifically as an all-electric station back in 1958. This area is recognized as one of the best locations in the UK for land-based whale watching, and the surrounding peatlands are part of the Flow Country, a habitat of international importance. Running through this rugged landscape feels like traversing the edge of the world, where the deep cultural heritage of the Scottish Highlands meets the raw, untamed power of the sea. After completing your run, there is no better local tradition than heading back to the village for some well-earned Highland hospitality.
