This 5.7km clockwise circuit offers a remarkably flat and accessible escape through some of Fife’s most pristine woodland and heathland. Starting in the village of Ladybank, runners will weave through a lush corridor of pines and silver birches passing through South Annsmuir, Heggie’s Muir, and Gravelpit Wood. The terrain is a mix of well-maintained forest paths and quiet paved sections, making it an ideal choice for a recovery run or a steady tempo session without the challenge of elevation. Expect a tranquil atmosphere where the only sounds are your footfalls and the local birdlife, with firm underfoot conditions that stay surprisingly resilient even after typical Scottish rainfall.
Ladybank is steeped in sporting history and natural heritage, best known globally for its prestigious Championship golf course which this route skirts. Originally a junction town established during the mid-19th century railway boom, the surrounding woods like Annsmuir were once part of a much larger royal hunting forest. Today, these woods are a haven for wildlife; keep a keen eye out for red squirrels and roe deer as you traverse the edges of the golf course. Running here provides a true sense of the "Kingdom of Fife" landscape, blending the area’s historic rail-link convenience with the timeless serenity of the Scottish lowlands.
