This 5.4km out-and-back route offers a sublime slice of the Fife Coastal Path, starting from the historic gates of Ravenscraig Park in Kirkcaldy. While largely paved and runner-friendly, the course features a "hilly" profile with 47m of ascent, providing just enough elevation to get your heart rate up without feeling overwhelming. Runners will enjoy sweeping views across the Firth of Forth as they track the rugged shoreline toward the ruins of the Lady Blanche Colliery. The terrain is about 80% paved, making it a reliable choice for road shoes, though you should be prepared for coastal winds and occasional spray if you’re chasing a personal best along the sea wall.
Steeped in industrial and royal history, this area is far more than just a scenic track. Running through Ravenscraig, you’ll pass the 15th-century Ravenscraig Castle, built for Queen Mary of Guelders and notable as one of the first castles in Scotland designed to withstand cannon fire. As you reach the turnaround point at the Lady Blanche Colliery site, you are standing atop a piece of Fife’s mining heritage, named after Lady Blanche Balfour. Local runners often recommend finishing your session by looping through the park’s wooded trails or heading into the nearby village of Dysart for a caffeine fix at the harbour, which famously featured as a filming location for the TV series Outlander.
