This 10.1km loop offers a quintessential East Neuk running experience, blending rugged coastline with serene Fife countryside. Starting from the historic village of Crail, the route follows the Fife Coastal Path toward Fife Ness, the easternmost point of the county. Runners will navigate a mix of paved sections and well-trodden coastal trails, maintaining a relatively flat profile with only 34 meters of gentle ascent. The terrain is accessible yet engaging, providing dramatic views of the North Sea, the Isle of May, and the distant Bell Rock Lighthouse on clear days, before turning inland at Craighead to return through the quiet, pastoral landscape of Wormiston.
Crail is one of the most iconic fishing villages in Scotland, famous for its picturesque harbor and ancient stone wynds. As you round the headland at Fife Ness, you are running through a site of significant maritime history and vital bird migratory paths; the area is a haven for sea-watchers and nature enthusiasts. The transition from the salt-sprayed cliffs to the fertile farmlands of Wormiston highlights the dual character of the Fife peninsula. Keep an eye out for the historic Wormiston House, a 17th-century tower house that serves as a landmark on your return leg, offering a glimpse into the region’s deep architectural heritage before you finish back in the heart of the village.
