The Skamper Wheelie Great Falkirk Half Marathon is a premier 22.2km journey that showcases the very best of Central Scotland’s running terrain. With an 80% off-road profile, this route offers a fantastic mix of smooth canal towpaths, woodland trails, and paved sections. While largely flat and built for maintaining a steady rhythm, runners should prepare for a physical test as the course climbs through the scenic Callendar Park and up towards Lionthorn. With an approachable 119m of total ascent, it remains a fast yet engaging course that rewards participants with a diverse landscape ranging from industrial heritage sites to lush green parks.
Falkirk is a town defined by its monumental engineering and rich history, all of which are on full display during this run. You’ll glide past the world-famous Falkirk Wheel—the world’s only rotating boat lift—and the majestic Kelpies, the largest equine sculptures on the planet located within The Helix. As you track the historic Union Canal and Forth & Clyde Canal, you are following pathways that once fueled the Industrial Revolution. The pass through Callendar Park adds a touch of grandeur, as the estate dates back to the 14th century and has hosted figures ranging from Mary Queen of Scots to Oliver Cromwell, providing a truly historic backdrop for your half marathon effort.
