Route Overview & Local Insights

This 10.3km loop is a runner’s dream for those seeking a flat, scenic escape through East Dunbartonshire. Starting near the historic village of Cadder, the route transitions seamlessly from firm trails to paved surfaces as it skirts the peaceful banks of the River Kelvin and the Forth & Clyde Canal towpath. With a negligible ascent of only 25 meters, it is perfectly suited for a steady tempo run or a relaxed weekend long run. You’ll experience a mix of sheltered woodland paths and open rural views, offering a refreshing grit-and-greenery feel that makes the kilometers fly by without the challenge of steep inclines.

Steeped in Scottish heritage, the area surrounding Torrance and Kirkintilloch offers more than just a great path for mileage. Kirkintilloch is famously known as the "Canal Capital of Scotland," and as you run along the water, you are following a corridor that once fueled the industrial heartbeat of the region. The route also passes near the site of the Antonine Wall, the Roman Empire’s northernmost frontier. Today, the atmosphere is considerably more tranquil, with the local wildlife—including herons and the occasional roe deer—replacing the bustling trade barges of the 18th century. It is a fantastic stretch of trail that connects these historic communities through a beautiful, natural green belt.
