Tackle the rugged beauty of the Ochil Hills with this challenging 14.2km loop starting from Menstrie. With over 500m of ascent, this is a serious hill run that demands respect and steady legs. From Ochil Road, you’ll immediately begin the climb, traversing the dramatic ravines of the Second and Third Inchna Burns. The terrain is entirely off-road, featuring technical grassy trails and steep heather-clad slopes that lead you to the summit of Colsnaur Hill. Reaching the high points above 500m rewards runners with sweeping panoramic views across the Forth Valley toward the Stirling periodic peaks, but be prepared for the exposed nature of the ridge where the Scottish weather can shift in an instant.
Menstrie serves as a historic gateway to the Ochils, once a bustling center for the woolen industry fueled by the very burns you’ll run alongside. The village is famously the birthplace of Sir William Alexander, the founder of Nova Scotia, and Menstrie Castle remains a local landmark nestled at the foot of these imposing hills. Running here feels like stepping into a quieter corner of the Clackmannanshire countryside, where the steep "scars" and deep glens provide a dramatic backdrop for fell runners and hill walkers alike. After your descent, local runners often reward their efforts at the nearby cafes in the Hillfoots villages, sharing stories of the challenging climb up Colsnaur.

Build the endurance needed to conquer the steep climbs above Menstrie.
