The highlight of the route is undoubtedly the stretch along the Water of Leith Walkway; this sheltered, shared-use path feels miles away from the city bustle, providing a flat and fast surface flanked by lush trees and the soothing sounds of the river. As you transition from the tranquil forest-like setting at Inverleith toward the architectural elegance of Wester Coates and Haymarket, the route offers a fantastic mix of steady climbs and gentle descents ideal for a mid-distance tempo run.
Steeped in local character, the area around Stockbridge was once a small village on the outskirts of Edinburgh, famous for its mill on the river and its bohemian spirit. As you run through Wester Coates, you’ll notice the grand Victorian villas that define this affluent corner of the capital, showcasing a different side of the city's heritage compared to the medieval Old Town.
