This 5.1km loop offers a quintessential Edinburgh running experience, blending historic cobblestones with lush green spaces. Starting with a swift descent into the heart of Stockbridge, you’ll pass through the iconic Circus Lane—widely considered one of the most beautiful streets in the UK. The route is entirely paved, making it a fast choice for a road session, though the "hilly" rating is earned by the formidable Dundas Street climb at the finish. As you transition from the charming mews of the New Town into the expansive perimeter of Inverleith Park and the Royal Botanic Garden, you'll enjoy flat, scenic sections perfect for picking up your tempo before the final ascent.
Stockbridge has long been the bohemian heart of Edinburgh, maintaining a village-like atmosphere despite its proximity to the city centre. As you run past the Water of Leith and into Inverleith Park, you are treading on ground that has hosted everything from Shinty matches to major festivals since the late 19th century. The final stretch up Dundas Street is a local rite of passage; this long, straight climb serves as a "classic" finisher that tests your grit while offering a stunning backward glance toward the Firth of Forth. After your run, the area’s thriving coffee culture provides the perfect opportunity to refuel in one of the many independent cafes lining St Stephen Street.
