This 6.6km circular loop offers a wonderfully flat and fast escape through Edinburgh’s northern suburbs, perfect for runners looking to maintain a steady tempo without the city's signature hills. Starting in the leafy neighborhood of Trinity, you’ll join the Ferry Road Path—a reclaimed railway line that provides a sheltered, traffic-free corridor—before looping through Pilton and descending toward the refreshing breezes of Granton Harbour. With 100% paved surfaces and a negligible 21m ascent, this route is an ideal choice for a coastal recovery run or a mid-week speed session away from the cobblestones of the Old Town.
Granton is currently undergoing a massive transformation, but its deep maritime history remains visible as you run past the old industrial landmarks and the expanding marina. Historically a vital hub for deep-sea fishing and glass making, the area now blends its Victorian industrial heritage with modern waterfront development. As you head back toward Trinity, you're running through one of Edinburgh's most prestigious Victorian suburbs, originally developed for the city's wealthy merchant class who wanted to escape the smog of the city center for the "sea air" you'll be breathing throughout your run.
