This 7.8km loop offers an invigorating, mostly paved coastal running experience that captures the raw beauty of the Angus coastline. With a negligible 20m of ascent, this is a flat and fast route perfect for tempo sessions or a breezy recovery run. Starting in Carnoustie, you’ll head east along the shore to the charming hamlet of East Haven. The terrain is 90% paved, ensuring solid footing even when the North Sea spray picks up. Runners will enjoy expansive sea views and a refreshing salt-air breeze as they navigate the coastal path before looping back via the quiet, scenic inland stretch of Panbride Road.
Steeped in maritime and sporting history, Carnoustie is globally renowned for its championship golf links, but local runners know the coastal paths offer the true escape. Your turnaround point, East Haven, is one of the oldest fishing communities in Scotland, dating back to 1214. As you pass through, look for the community-tended floral displays and local sculptures that mark this ancient haven. Returning via Panbride, you'll pass near the historic Panbride Church, which has ties to the ancestors of the composer Edvard Grieg, adding a touch of cultural heritage to your miles before finishing back in the heart of this famous sporting town.
