This 7.7km loop offers a fantastic blend of challenge and reward, striking a balance between paved segments and rugged hillside trails. With 160m of ascent, the route is classified as hilly, featuring a steady climb up Brimond Hill that will certainly test your climbing legs. Runners can expect varied terrain underfoot, transitioning from solid paths to the more resilient, peaty surfaces typical of Aberdeen's country parks. As you reach the summit, the incline pays off with expansive, panoramic views that stretch across the city of Aberdeen and out toward the North Sea, making the effort of the ascent well worth it for any trail enthusiast.
Brimond Hill serves as the highest point within the Aberdeen city boundary, standing as a prominent natural landmark in the Brimond and Elrick Hill Country Park. Historically, this area has been a vital "green lung" for the local community, providing a wild escape just a short distance from the industrial hubs of Dyce and Kingswells. The hill is easily identified by its distinctive telecommunications mast at the peak, which is a useful waypoint for navigation. On a clear day, look out for the distant peaks of the Grampian Mountains to the west; it’s a spot where the Scottish wilderness feels remarkably accessible from the urban center.
