Experience the perfect blend of manicured grandeur and rugged woodland on this 5.5km loop through the Stormont Estate in Dundonald. Starting at the iconic Prince of Wales Avenue, runners will tackle a moderately hilly course with a 73m elevation gain that offers plenty of variety. The route transitions from wide, paved sections near the Edward Carson Statue into undulating woodland trails that offer a softer landing for those looking to get off the asphalt. With a "Hilly 2" rating, it’s a fantastic middle-ground for runners wanting to build strength without the exhaustion of mountain peaks, making it a local favorite for tempo runs and scenic morning laps.
The Stormont Estate is steeped in Northern Ireland’s history and serves as the seat of the Northern Ireland Assembly. As you run, you’ll pass the striking Parliament Buildings, which were designed in the Greek Classical style and opened in 1932. The estate itself covers 400 acres of open parkland and dense forest, originally part of the Cleland family’s ancestral lands. Beyond the politics, the grounds are a sanctuary for local wildlife and a vibrant community hub for Belfast and Dundonald residents. Keep an eye out for the changing foliage in the woods, which provides a stunning backdrop that makes every season feel like a different run.
