Experience the raw power of the Causeway Coast on this 5.4km loop that offers a perfect blend of rugged coastal trails and scenic tarmac. Starting from the Fair Head Car Park, you'll immediately tackle a mix of grassy paths and technical rocky sections that define this SL-class route. With a steady 140m ascent, the run is notably hilly, demanding focused footwork as you navigate the exposed cliff edges. The final stretch transitions onto a smoother paved surface, allowing you to catch your breath and find your stride after the exhilarating, wind-swept challenge of the headland.
Fairhead, also known as Benmore, is steeped in Gaelic history and is often referred to as Northern Ireland's most dramatic cliff face. Rising 600 feet above sea level, these towering dolerite columns were formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago and serve as a legendary backdrop in both Irish mythology and modern pop culture, having featured prominently as Dragonstone in Game of Thrones. As you run, look out across the North Channel; on clear days, the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland is visible across the water, providing a stunning geographical context to this wild corner of the Glens of Antrim.
