This 4.2km trail loop offers a punchy, off-road experience for runners looking to escape the Bromsgrove pavement. Starting on Holywell Lane, the route follows the North Worcestershire Path through a mix of grassy ridgelines and woodland trails. With 62m of ascent packed into a short distance, you’ll tackle two notable climbs over Waseley Hill and Windmill Hill. The terrain is entirely unpaved, so expect a technical workout underfoot that requires stable trail shoes, especially after a typical British rain shower when the slopes can become slippery. It is a fantastic "short but sharp" session for building hill strength and enjoying 360-degree views across the Midlands.
The Waseley Hills Country Park acts as a natural gateway between the urban sprawl of Birmingham and the rolling Worcestershire countryside. Historically, this area sits on the line of a prehistoric trackway and was once a vital grazing site for local livestock. As you summit Windmill Hill, take a moment to look north toward the Lickey Hills and south toward the Malverns; on a clear day, the panoramas are arguably the best in the county. Running here feels like stepping back in time, as the ancient hedgerows and wildflower meadows have remained largely unchanged for centuries, providing a serene backdrop for your daily miles.
