Tackling the Anytime Race 6 in Sedbergh is a quintessential fell running experience, packing a punchy 535m of ascent into a 9.1km loop. Starting directly from the town, you’ll face an immediate, leg-burning climb onto Winder, where the pavement quickly gives way to steep, grassy slopes. As an SL-style course, the terrain shifts from defined tracks to rugged, exposed moorland as you traverse Crook and Arant Haw. Runners should prepare for technical footing beyond The Nab, where the descent towards Crosdale Beck requires nimble movement before the final, faster stretch back into the heart of Sedbergh.
Nestled at the foot of the Howgill Fells, Sedbergh is famously known as England’s "Book Town," but for the local community, it is the spiritual home of northern hill running. These "sleeping elephants"—as the smooth, rounded Howgills are often described—offer a unique landscape unlike the jagged crags of the nearby Lake District. The route passes through land that has seen centuries of traditional sheep farming, and the steep ridges you’ll be running were once the training grounds for some of the greatest legends in fell running history. After your effort, the town’s historic pubs and cobbled streets provide the perfect atmosphere for a post-run recovery.
