Experience the tranquil beauty of the Morecambe Bay coastline on this refreshing 6.0km out-and-back route from Grange-over-Sands Station to Kent’s Bank. This entirely paved course is a runner’s dream for speed work or a steady recovery session, boasting an almost perfectly flat profile with only 11m of total ascent. You’ll spend the majority of your miles on the iconic Grange Promenade, a wide tarmac path that offers unobstructed views across the vast, shifting sands of the estuary. While the terrain is easy-going, keep an eye out for a short set of steps as you transition between the promenade and the quiet residential streets that skirt the railway line—it's the perfect spot to catch a sea breeze and find your rhythm away from traffic.
Grange-over-Sands transformed from a small fishing village into a fashionable Edwardian seaside resort following the arrival of the Ulverston and Lancaster Railway in 1857. As you run past the beautifully manicured ornamental gardens and the historic lido, you are retracing the steps of Victorian tourists who flocked here for the "bracing" air and mild microclimate created by the surrounding limestone cliffs. Local tip: The tides in Morecambe Bay are famously fast and dangerous; while you are perfectly safe on the elevated promenade, the dramatic transformation of the landscape from shimmering water to endless sandbanks provides a stunning, ever-changing backdrop for your morning miles.
