Route Overview & Local Insights

The East Bramhope Cross Country Loop is a quintessential Yorkshire trail run, offering a 7.7km circuit that perfectly balances rural charm with a manageable physical challenge. With 70m of ascent, the route features steady, rolling climbs rather than punishing peaks, making it an ideal choice for runners looking to improve their aerobic base on varied terrain. You’ll experience a classic SL (Short-Long) mixture of surfaces, with about 20% on paved road and the remainder consisting of grassy tracks and dirt paths. Be mindful of the English weather; the fields near Bank Side Farm and the Dales Way Link can become quite heavy and boggy after a typical Leeds downpour, so trail shoes with decent lugs are highly recommended to navigate the softer ground.

Located on the northern fringe of Leeds, Bramhope is steeped in local history and serves as a vital gateway to the Wharfe Valley. This route utilizes sections of both the Ebor Way and the Dales Way Link, historic long-distance paths that connect some of Yorkshire's most scenic landmarks. As you wind past Brookland Farm and loop back toward the village, you are running through a landscape that has remained largely agricultural for centuries. The final stretch through Bramhope itself offers a glimpse of the village's distinct gritstone architecture, providing a pleasant suburban cooldown after the rugged tranquility of the surrounding farmland.
