Experience the tranquil beauty of West Sussex on this flat, 5.0km lollipop loop that follows the winding banks of the River Arun. Starting from Arundel FC, runners will enjoy a fast, leaf-strewn trail that offers exceptional views of the historic town skyline without a single meter of elevation gain. The terrain is predominantly unpaved riverside path, making it an ideal choice for a recovery run or a scenic tempo session where you can maintain a steady rhythm. The route crosses the iconic Swanbourne Footbridge, providing a perfect vantage point for spotting local waterfowl before looping back toward the finish.
Arundel is a town steeped in over a thousand years of history, dominated by the magnificent Arundel Castle which looms over the valley. Historically, the River Arun was a vital trade artery for the South Downs, and as you run these banks, you’re following tracks once used by merchants and barge haulers. The area around Swanbourne Lake and the footbridge is particularly rich in biodiversity, nestled at the foot of the chalk escapements of the South Downs National Park. After your run, local runners often congregate at the town's independent cafes for a post-mileage coffee in the shadow of the medieval Arundel Cathedral.
