This 4.8km loop offers a refreshing escape through the heart of Sandwell Valley Country Park. Starting from Belvedere Close, runners will tackle a moderately hilly terrain that keeps the legs working, featuring a mix of paved sections and well-trodden paths. The route flows anticlockwise, guiding you past the serene Ice House Pool before sweeping around the larger Swan Pool. With approximately 45m of elevation gain, it is a fantastic course for those looking to build strength on undulating ground while enjoying a scenic mix of woodland and lakeside views.
Sandwell Valley is a rich green corridor in the West Midlands, steeped in local history and biodiversity. As you run past the Ice House Pool, you are passing the site of the former Sandwell Hall, where an 18th-century ice house once served the resident gentry. The park is also a designated RSPB nature reserve, so keep an eye out for lapwings and kingfishers as you round the Swan Pool. It is a favorite spot for local running clubs, offering a "countryside feel" just a stone's throw from the urban centers of West Bromwich and Birmingham.
