Experience the quintessential charm of the Warwickshire countryside on this 5.2km loop starting in the peaceful village of Pillerton Hersey. This route offers a delightful mix of terrain, beginning with a scenic cross-field path that leads you toward the neighboring hamlet of Pillerton Priors. While the course features a modest 33m of ascent, the "hilly" rating reflects the rolling natural undulations typical of this region. With 75% of the route following quiet, paved country lanes, it provides a firm footing for most of the run, though the grassy sections through the fields can become muddy after a classic British rainfall, making trail shoes a wise choice during the winter months.
Steeped in rural history, the "Pillertons" are located just a few miles southeast of Stratford-on-Avon and offer runners a much quieter alternative to the busy tourist trails of the town center. Pillerton Hersey itself is named after the de Hercy family who held the manor in the 13th century, and as you pace through the village, you'll pass the ancient St. Mary’s Church, which dates back to the 1200s. Running here feels like stepping back in time; the surrounding landscape has remained largely agricultural for centuries, providing a serene backdrop of hedgerows and open pastures that perfectly captures the spirit of the Heart of England.
