This 7.2km road loop offers a refreshingly flat and fast-paced circuit through the eastern outskirts of Rugby. Starting in the historic suburb of Hillmorton, the route transitions seamlessly into the modern development of Houlton, providing a smooth, 100% paved surface that is ideal for tempo sessions or a steady weekend recovery run. With a negligible ascent of just 20m, you can expect a consistent rhythm without the interruption of steep climbs. The wide footpaths and well-lit roads make it a reliable choice for local runners throughout the year, regardless of the British weather.
Beyond the pavement, this route bridges the gap between Rugby’s industrial heritage and its future. Hillmorton is famous for its flight of locks on the Oxford Canal, once the busiest point on the entire English canal network, while Houlton occupies the vast site of the former Rugby Radio Station. As you run, you are passing over grounds that once housed the world's most powerful radio transmitter, which sent the first transatlantic telephone call to New York in 1927. Today, the area has been transformed into a vibrant community, blending wide-open green spaces with modern architecture, making it one of the most aesthetically pleasing suburban loops in Warwickshire.
