This 5.4km loop through Walker Riverside Park offers a perfectly flat, fully paved escape along the northern banks of the River Tyne. Starting at the junction of Malaya Drive and Hadrian's Way, runners will enjoy a smooth clockwise circuit that provides wide-open views of the water and the industrial heritage of the Newcastle quayside. With only 24m of ascent, it is an ideal route for tempo sessions or a recovery jog where you can settle into a consistent rhythm without the distraction of steep climbs or uneven technical trails.
Steeped in North East history, the route follows sections of the famous Hadrian's Way, tracing the line where the Roman Empire once stood. As you run through Walker, you’re passing through the heart of Newcastle’s shipbuilding legacy; these riverbanks were once some of the busiest shipyards in the world. Today, the area has been transformed into a green corridor, blending urban regeneration with nature. Keep an eye out for local birdlife along the mudflats and enjoy the sense of space that makes this one of the most popular riverside stretches for the local Tyneside running community.
